Why are there no definitions?
I haven’t included the definitions as I would like you to try to figure out the meanings from the context. It requires a little more effort on your part but it will pay off (= bring you benefits in the future) Anyway, online dictionaries are just a click away if you want to check you have understood or would like further examples. I highly recommend you use monolingual dictionaries, especially if you are B1 level or above. Once again, it’s more effort BUT I promise it will pay dividends (= be beneficial) in the long run.
